The Pomegranates Are Coming!

August 21st, 2007

PomegranateAs PomKat points out in the forums, the first crop of California-grown pomegranates are finding their way into local grocery stores and supermarkets across the country. Apparently this early crop will be followed by the main variety, the “Wonderful”.

Thanks PomKat!

PomSocial is very interested to hear where other pomegranates have turned up across the nation! Don’t be shy, let everyone know so we can nab them! :) Remember, you can always post a video of yourself talking about pomegranates or making pomegranate mixed drinks or cuisine by using the add video functionality in the PomSocial community!

Pomegranate Beer

August 20th, 2007

F.X Matt Brewery, the company responsible for the SaranacPomegranate Wheat Beverages and Beers has added “Pomegranate Wheat” to their summer time lineup. (see article)

If any of you tried Pomegranate Wheat, definitely submit a video review to the community or comment here in this blog.

Update: Men’s Health has an article claiming that “A glass of pomegranate juice every day may help manage erectile dysfunction…” Who would’ve thought?

Why PomSocial?

August 19th, 2007

This being the first PomSocial blog post, I thought I’d take a moment to welcome all of you as well as provide a little background behind this idea.

Artwork By Diane Neale

My name is David. I’m a web designer at KickApps Corp. and have been eating and enjoying pomegranates every since I was a young boy.

In recent years, I’ve been fascinated by the emergence and heightened popularity of pomegranates in the West. Some of you may know that “the pomegranate is native from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India and has been cultivated and naturalized over the whole Mediterranean region and the Caucasus since ancient times.” (see wikipedia)

Today, most of us would be hard pressed not to find a supermarket selling pomegranates in addition to a wide array of food and health products that contain or claim to contain pomegranate. If the taste and aesthetics of this fruit weren’t enough of a sell, this “superfood” has also been found to have many properties that are beneficial to one’s health.

Why The Pomegranate Social Network?

Why not? For the past few years I have thought frequently about starting a pomegranate blog, but was reluctant to because I wanted to do more than simply setup a modern blog. I wanted to build a community that enabled all viewers to participate, share stories, experiences, recipes, photos of pomegranate-stained clothing, etc.. I wanted to go beyond simply speaking to all of you and limiting your involvement to a meager comments section.

Today

By leveraging the free technology that KickApps offers as well as tying in Wordpress, PomSocial can be a place where everyone and anyone who has an interest in the wonderful world of pomegranates can participate on a level playing ground with people from around the world, share videos, photos/artwork, communicate with others and do just about anything.
